Succulent Terrariums

Do succulents seduce you?

A succulent is a plant that stores water in it’s leaves and natively grows in harsh environments. What does this mean? They tend to be plants that tolerate neglect and are forgiving if you forget about them for a bit. They love dry environments so an open terrarium is where they would need to call home. The openness lets the roots dry out which is key for the health of a succulent.

Why a glass bowl?

The glass bowl makes an excellent open terrarium for your succulent. The glass is visually pleasing while not obstructing or distorting your view of the plant. With the clear glass you can create beautiful sand layers around the base of the plant to add interest.

Level of care

Succulent terrariums are open so they will need some watering. The amount the will need will change throughout the year. The key is to make sure they are able to dry out in-between waterings. In the summer when the sun is stronger and the air is warm it provides great growing conditions so watering may be needed once a week. In the winter months the low light and colder temperatures put the plant in a more dormant state. Watering during the winter may be only needed once a month.
